The University is sad to share the news that former lecturer, Professor Peter Williams, died on 12 June 2026 at the age of 88.
Peter began his career as a lecturer at the then Paisley College of Technology (now UWS) in the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1965 and progressed to senior lecturer, gaining his PhD in 1978.
He had an extensive background in teaching, research and academic publication and co-authored a widely used practical guide series on electronic circuits, co- wrote a how-to manual called The ZX Spectrum – Your Personal Computer and was Editor of Programming the BBC Micro.
Following his interest and expertise in the growth area of microprocessor technology, Peter was asked to head up Scotland’s new training centre for the electronics industry, MEDC in 1985. The Microelectronics Educational Development Centre was based on Paisley campus and funded by the Scottish Office.
Peter spent a decade at MEDC where he played a leading role in developing research into computer-assisted learning and shared his expertise with colleagues and institutions across the world.
He retired in 1995 but remained abreast of developments in the field and proudly retained his membership of the IEEE until his death.
So sorry to hear the sad news of the death of Professor Peter Williams on 12 June 2026.
Peter was a great influence to me during my time at MEDC in Paisley.
