Indie Studio Founded by UWS Graduate Releases First Game

Glasgow-based indie studio Ludus Pax, founded by a University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate, has released its first commercial game Rise Of The Village Hero.

Computer Games Development graduate Silviu Soare established his own game development studio, Ludus Pax, in November 2023 releasing the role-playing game for PC which originally started as a third-year university project.

In the game Rise of the Village Hero, players step into the shoes of Guy who returns to his village only to find his home destroyed by monsters. Uncover the greater mystery behind the attack on the village and save the Kingdom of Dobroja.

The studio’s first commercial game began as a third-year university project, which Silviu continued to develop and release in Early Access in January 2024.

“I embarked on a new journey by starting my own game development studio at the end of 2023,” said Silviu. “At the time, I was also in the process of writing my dissertation, for the Computer Games Development course I was studying at UWS, making it a very busy period.”

“I was always highly encouraged by my lecturers to pursue my career dreams and received tremendous support during my time at UWS. The teachings, guidance, and support I received at UWS truly prepared me for this journey.

“I’ve always wanted to embark on a solo journey and create indie games, but I can’t say I would have gained the necessary experience and skills without attending the UWS Computer Games Development course. I graduated with a first-class degree and am a two-time Court Medal recipient, but I achieved all that through hard work and the amazing lecturers and support at UWS. Especially from Thomas and Gavin who have always been there.”

Silviu, who enrolled at UWS following an HND in Computer Games Development at West College Scotland, is excited about developing the game and the studio.

“The mission of my studio is to craft immersive indie games driven by passion and offered at an affordable rate.

“As the first game for the studio, my primary focus is now directed towards further development and enhancement of the game, fostering a community around it, and exploring potential future projects for the studio.”
