Former Student Group Meet in Paisley After 45 Years

The University was delighted to welcome back former science students, who all met at Paisley College of Technology (now UWS Paisley Campus) in 1975, recently for a reunion.

The group travelled from Spain, London, Dundee, Bo’ness, Glasgow and the surrounding area, to see each other again for the first time in 45 years!

Chemistry graduate Ken Young, whose individual visit to Paisley Campus earlier this year sparked the reunion idea, said:

“We were a group of 10 or 11 students who did everything together. We always met first thing in the morning in the café next to the library (now known as the Neuk). We had lunch in the big café and we studied together in the library every afternoon.

“Every Thursday afternoon one person was delegated to go to Allan’s fish and chip shop in Storie Street with the order from the rest of us, and we ate in room J209.

“After that, it was a trip to the Students’ Union, which was in Hunter Street in those days, for a drink and to watch Top of the Pops!”

The group enjoyed tea and coffee on the Paisley Campus before embarking on a tour and trip down memory lane.

The group have resolved to not leaving it so long for the next meet up.

“Two days before the visit, we found another two of the original group who live in London, but at such a short notice, it was too late for them to join us. Maybe next time as we hope to get together again next year,” added Ken.

“I’m looking forward to another trip on the train to Gilmore Street just like I did during 4 years at the ‘Tech’”.
