Graduate Wins BAFTA Award

A University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate has been awarded a BAFTA Scotland award at the ceremony which took place in Glasgow on 17 November 2024.

Ashley Storrie, who graduated from the BA (Hons) Filmmaking and Screen Writing programme at UWS Ayr Campus, was the winner of this year’s BAFTA Scotland Awards Audience Award for her performance in the hit BBC TV series Dinosaur.

On the night Ashley paid tribute to her mother Janey Godley who died of cancer on 2 November. She told the BBC in an interview: “The last thing I said to her was ‘I’m going to win a Bafta for you’ and I’ve done it, so I’m chuffed.

“I think it would mean an awful lot for her to see me here tonight.”

An actor, comedian, radio presenter and writer, she also won the screenwriter award with co-writer Matilda Curtis for the BBC TV series.

Dinosaur follows Nina (Ashley Storrie), an autistic woman in her 30s, who adores her life living with her sister and best friend Evie. However, when Evie rushes into an engagement after only six weeks and makes Nina her maid of honour, Nina is floored. Forced to reconcile with her sister’s impulsive decision, Nina grapples with what this new challenge means.

The six-part comedy series was filmed and set in Glasgow.
