basketballscotland’s Board has announced a University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
UWS BSc (Hons) sport development graduate David Fallon will be joining basketballscotland, the recognised National Governing Body for basketball in Scotland, from Scottish Athletics.
David commented: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to the Chief Executive Officer role at basketballscotland. Basketball is a sport that I enjoyed throughout school, and have experienced and supported in recent years as my nephews begin their journey at club level.
“I look forward to continuing the great work of Kevin Pringle and to working with the Board, staff, and partners to deliver on the vision, values, and strategy for basketball in Scotland.
“I am excited to start in late summer, and I look forward to meeting, and working collaboratively with, those who are the foundation of the sport: our clubs, members, coaches, officials and volunteers.”
A graduate from the Lanarkshire Campus in 2013, David gained experience working at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games before joining Scottish Squash as a Regional Development Manager for the West of Scotland.
At Scottish Squash David went on to lead on programmes and initiatives to broaden the sport’s appeal and has a passion for development, before joining scottishathletics in 2021 as head of development.
“My education at UWS has underpinned my whole career, and provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding to progress through my career in Scottish Sport,” added David.
“I’ve also enjoyed staying engaged with the university to support academically with a several projects throughout my career, providing research and placement opportunities for other students.”
