Olympic Winter Games Return for UWS Graduate

A University of the West of Scotland (UWS) graduate is set to return to the Olympic stage for the first time in eight years at Milano Cortina 2026.

Kyle Waddell, who graduated from the BSc (Hons) Sport Development degree at UWS, made his Olympic Winter Games debut at PyeongChang 2018 for Team GB in Curling.

Kyle commented: “To come back this year is exciting, the Olympics is the pinnacle of our sport. I’m looking forward to representing and being part of Team GB for the second time.”

Graduating in 2016 he won a Silver medal at the European Championships in St Gallen in 2017 before joining Team GB in PyeongChang.

Born in Bellshill, Kyle comes from a family tradition of Curling with Grandfather Jimmy a European Champion in 1979 and Grandmother Isobel a Worlds Women’s Bronze Medalist in 1982. His brother Craig is also a Curling athlete.

Since PyeongChang Kyle has won two European Gold medals in 2022 and 2023, and two Gold medals at the 2023 and 2025 Men’s World Curling Championship as part of Team Scotland.

The men’s first match in Milano Cortina will take place on Wednesday 11 February 2026 against The People’s Republic of China.
